Products to ‘Splurge’ on & Products to ‘Save’ on……. If you want dewy, glass-like skin

The 10-step Korean skincare routine has increasingly become popular since the famous Korean makeup artist showed off her dewy, glass skin. Most of us, if not all, want to have clear skin, but this lengthy skincare routine will cost you a pretty penny.

That being said, if you are wise about what you save on and what you splurge on when purchasing products, it is possible to do even within a budget.

In this blog post, we dive deeper into the Korean skincare routine to determine which items are worth breaking the bank for and which you can save on.

Follow this K-beauty inspired 10-step routine for dewy, glass skin. There won’t be a single pore left untouched…

1. Oil cleanser

2. Cream/Foam cleanser

3. Toner

4. Essence

5. Emulsion

6. Serum

7. Sheet mask

8. Eye Cream

9. Moisturiser

10. Sunscreen

Although all steps in this routine are advised, most of us cannot afford to spend money on every single item. To determine what to splurge on, we have to understand what makes this routine so effective. The most critical steps in the Korean skincare regimen are cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, serums, and sunscreen. Out of these five steps, it is easiest to find effective but affordable cleansers, exfoliators and moisturizers. This, therefore, means that we should save on cleansers, moisturizers and exfoliators and invest in premium serums and sunscreen.

Most of us only started using a serum as part of our skincare routine recently. Serums contain unprecedented amounts of active ingredients that target specific skin problems such as dehydration, hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, congested skin, etc. Based on what your main skincare concerns are, you should choose a serum that will treat and correct your skin appropriately.

There is no point in investing in expensive skincare products if you are not going to protect your skin from what causes it harm, either. Having a good sunscreen will ensure that you do not keep having to deal with the same problems over and over again. Sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UV rays that cause premature aging, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, skin discoloration, as well as dull and dry skin.

The moral of the story? Before trying out this 10-step K-beauty routine make sure you’ve got your skincare basics covered… and don’t try to save on the important stuff, like good quality sunscreen and serum.

‘Hydrate’ your way to Glass Skin! Skincare ingredients & facial treatments to look out for!

If you are trying to achieve glass skin, then you understand the importance of effective skincare for hydration – cleansing, toning, exfoliating and most importantly moisturising your skin. Glass skin is exceptionally smooth and even-toned and this is achieved by regularly exfoliating the skin and keeping it moisturised and hydrated. To achieve and maintain glass skin, you should incorporate the following ingredients and treatments into your skincare regimen.

Glycolic acid

Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid, commonly known as AHA. It has become very popular in the beauty industry, with most beauty companies incorporating it into their cleansers, toners and moisturisers. If you are still wondering what is the fuss about, then you should know that glycolic acid gently exfoliates the outermost layer of the skin while hydrating the skin all at the same time. It also helps treat acne-prone skin, hyperpigmentation as well as fine lines and wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid

I cannot stress enough the importance of hydrating your skin, especially if you want to maintain or achieve glass skin. Making sure that you take at least eight glasses of water a day will is a good start, but that alone is not enough to keep your skin hydrated. You need to invest in skincare for hydration. Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant. It improves the skin’s ability to retain moisture, and visibly plumps up the skin after a few applications for a youthful and glowy look.

Hydrafacials

Facials do to our skin what servicing does to a car. Even with a proper skincare routine in place, our skin requires extra care and attention now and then. Hydrafacials are multifunctional treatments that target various skin problems. This treatment utilises the benefits of hyaluronic acid, peptides and other super-serums to correct textured and dehydrated skin, dark spots, enlarged pores as well as congested skin. The hydrafacial treatment also uses the vortex cleaning system and anti-oxidant delivery for healthier radiant skin.

A well-curated skincare routine and regular facial treatments will help achieve and maintain your glass skin. Keeping your skin hydrated will improve its elasticity, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, combat excess production of sebum and make it more resilient to free radicals.

Do you really need a 10-step K-beauty routine to get glass skin? We’ve got the TEA!

A few years ago, a Korean makeup artist went viral for her glass skin look. Since then, the ten-step Korean skincare routine has become very popular in the beauty world. Many men and women adopted this skincare routine and some even swear by it. Although this routine delivers good results, it is not a sustainable option for many. It requires a lot of time and money, so if you cannot afford this lengthy skincare routine, not to worry, you can still achieve glass skin using personalised facial treatments.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is an advanced exfoliating treatment that involves scraping off dead skin as well as facial hair using a sterilised blade. This facial treatment delivers an instant glow to the skin, reduces skin texture and aids in deeper penetration of other products. If you suffer from dull skin, this treatment will do wonders for you.

HIFU Facial

This is a non-surgical facelift done using high intensity focused ultrasound. It targets ageing or sagging skin, and results are visible immediately after the procedure. Precise and focused ultrasound beams penetrate the dermis, adipose tissue and superficial fascia generating thermal coagulation points. This initiates the regeneration of soft collagen fibres and multidimensional firming due to the contraction of tissues and the production of collagen. This treatment is effective for firming and tightening the skin and it does not require any downtime.

Hydrafacial

If you have several skin concerns, then you will love this multifunctional facial treatment. It targets enlarged pores, dry and dehydrated skin, uneven texture, congested skin as well as dark spots. It combines the vortex cleansing system with super serums, peptides and hyaluronic acid as well as anti-oxidant delivery to treat dehydrated skin. Hyaluronic acid helps the skin retain more water for a more supple look.

These are just but a few of the available facial treatments in the market. Depending on what your skin needs, your esthetician can come up with personalised treatments targeting all your skin concerns. Facial treatments, together with a simple skincare routine, offer more effective and long-lasting results.

The ONLY facial you need to get that dewy, glass skin!

Glass skin is in! Taking the beauty world by storm, the Korean trend for dewy skin so translucent it’s as light reflective as glass is a 2020 skincare movement that’s here to stay. The routine to achieve mirror-like skin tends to involve a multitude of steps from double cleansing to sheet masks and essences to moisturisers. But there’s another way to achieve the high gloss look and it’s the only facial you need to get that dewy, glass skin.

Dermaplaning facial

Layers of dead skin and peach fuzz on your face can cause dullness, fatigue, breakouts and fine lines. Those little hairs that drive you mad are not conducive to the dewy glass skin look. Neither is tired looking, flat skin that refuses to glow. Dermaplaning is an effective facial treatment that uses a surgical scalpel to gently exfoliate and remove dead skin and peach fuzz by carefully scraping the surface of your skin. The best thing about this treatment is that the results are instant – super smooth, glowing skin that’s baby soft and looks much healthier. The benefits of Dermaplaning go even further. By removing those dead skin cells, foundation goes on far more evenly and all your skincare products are far more efficiently absorbed. A Dermaplaning facial means there is no need to use harsh exfoliators on your face and you won’t need a 10-step routine to get glass skin. Not only is the big reveal brighter, fresher skin, but Dermaplaning results in skin cells having a faster turnover which encourages collagen production and plumper looking skin.

Combine with a Hydrafacial, LED treatment or Chemical Peel for outstanding results

Combining the power of Dermaplaning with a youth-boosting Hydrafacial brightens and plumps the skin even further. These two effortless treatments work harmoniously to clear out pores and drive in potent actives including super-serums and hyaluronic acid to hydrate skin at the deepest level. Choose to pair a Dermaplaning facial with a multi-award-winning Dermalux LED treatment and you’ll achieve the ultimate dewy complexion. Dermalux LED therapy uses infrared light to give you instant photo-ready skin whilst fighting acne, redness and pigmentation, boosting collagen and delivering intense hydration. Dermaplaning also works exceptionally when used before a Chemical Peel. Sloughing off the outer layers of skin during Dermaplaning increases the efficacy of a Chemical Peel and intensifies that glass skin look.

The ONLY Hyperpigmentation products you need in 2020 (recommended by Shohreh Bagherian)

The cosmetic world is constantly introducing new products, making it difficult to find the right product for specific skin issues, such as hyperpigmentation. If you suffer from hyperpigmentation, it is vital you have a good skincare routine that helps minimize the problem and keeps your skin healthy. Contrary to what most people think, good skin may result from the use of a limited number of products, including moisturizers, serum, and sunscreens. Here are some of the products we recommend and honestly, the only ones you really need.

1. Moisturizer

Moisturizers come in the form of lotions, creams, and ointments and are applied on the skin after cleansing to trap the existing moisture and prevent it from drying. Some moisturizers that are particularly beneficial for hyperpigmentation include:

MCCM Glutathione Cream

The cream works by whitening your skin, and it contains antioxidants such as Myrtus, Commiphora Myrrha, and Allium Cepa. It inhibits the production of melanin and has antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties. The benefits of the cream include the brightening of the skin and regenerating damaged skin.

Nimue Day Fader Plus

This cream has a component known as Diglucosyl Gallic acid, which is a skin-brightening agent. Additionally, it works to even the skin’s complexion, reduce dark spots, and smoothen the skin.

Nimue Night Fader Plus

Just like the day cream, this one works to even the skin tone but is recommended for the night due to its lightweight nature.

2. Serums

Serums are oil, gel, or emulsion-based products with a higher concentration of active ingredients than other substances. They are used in small quantities and can rapidly penetrate through the skin. Serums target specific problems such as acne or skin pigmentation. The Nimue Fader Serum is an example of a serum used to target hyperpigmentation. It complements the effects of Nimue Fader cosmetics by increasing the rate of skin brightening and promotes an even skin tone.

3. Sunscreens

Sunscreens are among the most important skincare products you ought to use daily. They not only protect your skin from harmful UV radiation but also prevent premature aging. Anyone suffering from hyperpigmentation must use sunscreen. There are various sunscreen products you can choose including HydroPeptide Non-tinted Solar defense SPF 50, Nimue Environmental Shiled SPF 50, and Nimue SPF 40 with Vitamin C.

If you’re looking for any of these products, hit us up and we’ll help you out!

Glycolic acid and other chemical peels. Here’s what you should know!

Glycolic acid is one of those ‘miracle’ ingredients that’s now part of nearly every product from drugstore skincare like Neutrogena to niche skincare brands like The Ordinary & Pixi to even luxury skincare like Caudalie & Murad.

Essentially, Glycolic acid is an AHA (Alpha-Hydroxi Acid) and is an effective chemical exfoliant. Chemical exfoliants have a ‘peeling’ effect. They get rid off dead skin layers to reveal smoother & clearer under layers of your skin.

Glycolic acid is the most common chemical exfoliant, and beauty experts have often referred to it as the “holy grail” when it comes to correcting skin imperfections. When applied on to the skin, Glycolic acid is able to break bonds between dead cells and free them so they can be removed from the skin.

Glycolic acid has immense benefits for the skin, including:

  1. As an exfoliator, it gets rid of old skin cells thus, accelerating new skin growth for younger-looking skin.
  2. It is highly recommended for acne-prone skin because it helps unclog pores by removing dirt which blocks them causing breakouts.
  3. It helps reduce signs of aging by boosting the production of collagen and elastin which are essential for a firmer and plumper look.
  4. Glycolic acid also helps treat other skin problems such as hyperpigmentation, keratosis pilaris, and psoriasis while reducing the appearance of blackheads.
  5. It also helps your skin absorb products such as serums and are medication, better.

Incorporating chemical exfoliants like Glycolic acid in your skincare routine and regularly getting facial treatments with this ingredient will help correct skin imperfections and brighten your skin complexion for a youthful glow.

While the term ‘chemical exfoliant’ may sound scary and aggressive on your skin, it is way safer on your skin in comparison to physical exfoliants. It causes much less irritation & dryness.

The only downside to Glycolic Acid and other chemical exfoliants is ‘Overuse’ which makes your skin susceptible to sun and environmental damage. For most skin types, it isn’t necessary to have chemical exfoliants in your face wash, toner, serums & face masks. Most skincare products these days also have highly concentrated concoctions of chemical exfoliants, so it’s very easy to get too much chemical exfoliant on your skin which is quite damaging.

Our recommendation is to do your research and get minimal chemical exfoliants into your daily skincare routine. If you’re dealing with issues like hyperpigmentation, scarring and clogged pores, you should get more potent chemical exfoliant treatments occasionally.

At Ivory aesthetics, we provide personalised facial treatments that incorporate chemical peels such as glycolic acid and hyaluronic acid. Give us a call on 04 451 5554 for more information or you can book an appointment online by clicking here

Dermaplaning – It’s More Than Just Shaving Your Face!

If you’re a beauty & skincare enthusiast, you must’ve come across those ‘oh-so-satisfying’ facial shaving or dermaplaning videos on Instagram. And no, it isn’t just a skincare fad. The post-dermaplaning glow is unreal, making it one of the most sought after facial treatments this year.

So is dermaplaning just a fancy term for facial shaving? Absolutely not!

When done by a qualified esthetician along with the right products, exfoliants & face masks; dermaplaning can be that perfect go-to facial treatment to keep your skin clear, all year round.

Dermaplaning might, on the surface (pun intended), seem like fancy face shaving, and in a way it is. During the treatment, peach fuzz (or vellus hair) and dead skin cells are lightly shaved off from the face using a medical-grade scalpel. This might sound scary, but it is entirely pain-free and harmless. In fact, removing peach fuzz and dead skin cells leaves you with a healthy face ready for anything!

Combine Dermaplaning with other customized exfoliating treatments and you have a potent facial mix that’ll leave your skin silky smooth, bump-free, perfect for makeup application & of course, glowing!

Some other benefits of Dermaplaning:

  1. Makes your skin completely smooth, clear and a perfect canvas for make up
  2. Moisturisers seep into the skin easier, refreshing your face faster
  3. Removing dead skin also reduces breakouts so you can stay fresh-faced for longer; it is essentially exfoliating

Busting Dermaplaning Myths

You may have heard horror stories about dermaplaning making hair grow back thicker, or darker. This isn’t true. Dermaplaning does not affect hair growth.

The whole process doesn’t take too long, either, with some people fitting appointments in during lunch breaks.

Your skin doesn’t need any recovery time either but experts suggest you give your skin some time to settle down, roughly 24 hours. Your skin is extremely receptive to products right after dermaplaning, so a gentle moisturiser is a good idea, but no makeup if possible.

Experienced estheticians know how to work on multiple layers of skin without harming the face, so there is no risk involved in the process. Dermaplaning is gentle and effective on all skin types, but if you have extremely sensitive skin or problems with acne, talk to your esthetician before booking an appointment.

At Ivory Aesthetics, we’re experts at Dermaplaning and we’ve combined our dermaplaning treatment with a chemical peel that makes the perfect exfoliating treatment. If you’re looking for a Dermaplaning treatment in Dubai, give it a shot. Call us on 04 451 5554 or you can book an appointment online by clicking here.

AED 300 vs AED 600 HydraFacial – The Difference Explained

The HydraFacial has become one of the most popular and trending facials in Dubai, and with good reason!

It’s a multi award winning treatment that uses hydra-dermabrasion to cleanse, exfoliate, extract, hydrate and provide antioxidant protection.

A lot of aesthetic spas and facial centers in Dubai are now offering the HydraFacial, but a common question we get it is…

Why do the prices differ so much from place to place?!

There are HydraFacial’s starting from AED 300 and going up all the way to AED 600+, depending on where you go.

After we received tonnes of enquiries from our very own clients about this, we decided to do a short post explaining it.

The HydraFacial is a customized facial that is done using the HydraFacial machine.

Just the use of the machine can be added on to any facial for approximately AED 100 at many spas.

However, this add-on does not make use of the various ampules and products that come along with a complete HydraFacial.

It’s like exfoliating your skin, but not applying the products needed post that which will actually help regenerate your skin from within.

Most of the lower-end HydraFacials use a basic facial with the addition of the HydraCool machine towards the end.

However, a more comprehensive and result-oriented HydraFacial makes use of the full range, which includes products like super serums, hyaluronic acid masks, hydro-peptides and more.

These are the products that actually infuse your skin with hydration from within, and are things you would otherwise be paying for separately (often at higher prices).

So, we hope that clears up confusion on how and why prices for the HydraFacial tend to vary so much.

If you’re looking for a truly effective treatment that actually takes care of your skin concerns, rather than just opts to use a trending machine on you, we’d always suggest going for a more comprehensive HydraFacial.
