Calcium hydroxyapatite for immediate lift and long-term collagen support.
Radiesse is a dual-action injectable, immediate volume and structure from calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres, plus a longer collagen-stimulating response over the following months.
How it works. Radiesse consists of CaHA microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. The gel provides immediate volume the moment it is placed. Over the following weeks the gel is absorbed, and the CaHA microspheres remain, acting as a scaffold that the body's own collagen and elastin build around. Both the immediate structural effect and the collagen response last, typically 12 to 18 months.
Where it works best. The jawline, the pre-jowl sulcus (the depression in front of the jowl), the chin, the temples, and the lower cheek. It is well suited to areas that benefit from structural definition rather than soft plumping.
The technique. Radiesse is placed deep, typically on the periosteum (the layer directly on the bone), to give lasting structural support. We use a blunt cannula in most areas, which reduces bruising and, when placed correctly, reduces vascular risk.
How it differs from HA filler. HA filler is softer and better suited to areas where movement and expression matter, lips, tear troughs, superficial nasolabial lines. Radiesse is firmer, providing structure where the face needs a scaffold. Both have their place, and we often use them in the same client for different areas.
How it differs from Sculptra. Sculptra is a pure biostimulator with no immediate volume. Radiesse gives immediate volume plus a collagen response. When a client wants same-day change plus long-term collagen support, Radiesse is often the better tool.
What to expect. Immediate visible change, some swelling and tenderness for 24 to 48 hours, occasional mild bruising. Result settles at around one week. Longevity typically 12 to 18 months, sometimes longer.
Who it does not suit. Radiesse is not reversible in the way HA fillers are, so we are conservative about placement and volume. We do not use it in the lips, tear troughs, or nose. Clients wanting a completely reversible option should choose HA filler.
The honest read. Radiesse is one of our go-to tools for lower-face contouring, particularly the jawline. Used with a light hand it produces subtle definition that reads as bone structure, not filler.
