Two platelet-derived therapies, similar principles, different best uses.
PRP and PRF both start with your own blood. The difference is in how it is processed and what comes out the other end. Both work, but they are not interchangeable.
PRP, platelet-rich plasma, is spun at higher speeds to separate red cells from a plasma layer rich in platelets and their growth factors. We add a small amount of anticoagulant to keep it liquid for injection. PRP is the established standard for hair restoration, fine line improvement, and as an adjunct to microneedling.
PRF, platelet-rich fibrin, is spun at lower speeds without anticoagulant. The result is a slower-releasing matrix containing platelets, white blood cells, and a fibrin scaffold. PRF works more like a sustained-release version of PRP, releasing growth factors over the days following injection rather than all at once.
When we choose PRF over PRP. Under-eye work where a slower, gentler release reduces puffiness and produces a more natural settle. Scarring protocols where the sustained signal supports better tissue remodelling. Combination treatments where we want the growth-factor effect to persist between sessions.
When we stay with PRP. Hair restoration, where the injection pattern across the scalp benefits from a more fluid product. General skin rejuvenation as part of a microneedling protocol. Most cost-effective regenerative work.
Both are drawn at consultation, spun on-site, and used within an hour. Neither involves a foreign substance, your body is the source. Both have a short post-treatment swelling window of 24 to 48 hours.
Tell us your priority at consultation, hair, under-eye, scarring, general skin, and we will recommend the version best suited to it. If a clinic offers only one of the two, that is your answer for which treatment you will get, regardless of what you actually need.
