Sunscreen, heat, and air conditioning all affect skin differently. How we adjust the standard HydraFacial protocol.
Dubai summer is not a mild season for skin. Peak UV from May through September, indoor air conditioning that runs dehydration higher than most winters, and the sunscreen and mineral filters we all use produce a specific combination of surface impaction, dehydration, and mild inflammation. The standard HydraFacial protocol benefits from a few adjustments during these months.
The heat-and-AC combination. Peak-heat months mean daily exposure to strong dry indoor air, which pulls moisture from the skin, while outdoor time raises surface temperature and sweat mineral content. The typical result is skin that feels tight, looks slightly dehydrated, and has an unusually shiny T-zone.
How we adjust the extraction step in summer. We use a gentler suction setting on skin that has been exposed to sun or heat within 48 hours, and we adjust the acid selection toward salicylic (which is oil-soluble and reaches into congested follicles) rather than glycolic (which is more surface-active but slightly more irritating on heat-sensitised skin).
The infusion step. Our summer infusion protocol emphasises hyaluronic acid and antioxidant boosters (particularly vitamin C). Vitamin C is protective against UV damage and supports the skin's response to the extra oxidative stress of summer.
The LED addition. We often pair a HydraFacial with Dermalux LED red light immediately afterwards during summer months. LED calms residual redness, supports barrier function, and takes ten to fifteen minutes with no additional discomfort.
What to avoid on the day of your HydraFacial. Direct sun for at least 24 hours before, and 24 hours after. Sauna or hot yoga on the day of. Retinoids for two days before (to reduce sensitivity during extraction).
How often to book in summer. Every four to six weeks for most clients. Skin turns over faster and gets grimier faster in Dubai summer, so monthly is often the sweet spot.
Sunscreen tip. If you are one of the many clients who has developed mild breakouts under mineral SPF in summer, ask us about switching to a hybrid mineral-chemical formula, or a fluid-textured mineral. Not all sunscreens sit the same way on Dubai-heat skin, and the wrong one is often the culprit behind summer congestion.
